ROSSMANN Afforestation Project
Reforesting diverse native tree species in East Nicaragua

The project started in 2022 at 730 hectares and will include almost 430,000 planted trees of approximately 25 species native to the region. There will be no commercial harvesting. In addition, 200 hectares have been set aside as protected forest islands, which serve as essential habitats for the conservation of local biodiversity.

ROSSMANN is one of Europe's largest drugstore chains and is promoting this project with the objective of permanently reforesting 730 hectares of land previously affected by slash and burn practices, located in the vicinity of El Rama/Kukra Hill, Río Kama, in the Autonomous Region of the Southern Caribbean Coast.
The project aims to be certified against Gold Standard and will result in many ecological, social and economic benefits for the local region and its people. Among these are emission reduction, improvement of air, soil and water quality, establishment of local jobs, training, health care and others.
On 27 August 2025 ROSSMANN held an onsite meeting (local stakeholder consultation) and invited all relevant stakeholders – local people, local and national authorities, organizations, companies and others.
